Why you should link to authority sites in your blog

Today I discovered a powerful secret for promoting your blog.

Link to a high PR blog!

Many of these authority blog sites have automatic trackbacklinking - so that when they find that you have linked to them you will be rewarded with a link back to your blog.

This is nearly always a win for you - especially if your blog is somewhat new or not well ranked.

The VERY best way to do it is:
1. Search for sites well ranked on your topic or keywords. You can also do this search based on the categories in your blog. For instance I would search for other press release and news blogs.

2. Go to the site - find some relevant content in the blog and click to the single post and grab the permalink URL for that post.

3. Go to your blog and post your comments about that post - perhaps even include some text from the blog as a quote from the site - and place the permalink you got from this blog there. This is important - you gotta link to them.

4. The link will show up to the blog owner (if you use WordPress then just look at the “recent activity” area when you login and you’ll see that while you’ve been goofing off - WordPress has been busy collecting the inbound links to your site!

5. Many of these blogs will automatically link back to you - some are set to manually approve links (not a bad idea for you to avoid getting a link from an undesirable site.) When the blog owner sees the link - many times they will reciprocate - Google loves links from blog to blog - it’s what “blogging” is all about - a log of websites - and the rules for reciprocal linking are different for blogs than web sites.

* Note: On your site it would be a good idea to link to people who link to you from appropriate sites. Here’s how…

1. Rename the “blogroll” category from your sider into something that contains your keywords. Instead of Blogroll - you could change it to {Your Keywords} News or {Keywords} favorite sites - anything like that but put your keywords first.

This helps the keyword density on your blog and also helps get better adwords ads if you are using them.

2. When you get a link put the link in the Blogroll with their keywords and pop them an email thank you - you never know where the partners will come from for your site.

3. You could even get some content to post to your blog from this site if it is related - or trade articles - loaded with deep links into each other’s sites - but article exchanges is a matter for another article.

WANNA BE REALLY NICE?

LINK TO THIS ARTICLE?

Just grab the permalink (below) and use it in your blog or email newsletter - anyone on your list who does blogging will appreciate this tip.

Sincerely,

yes, Rick you are right, it is important to link the monkey to our blog’s. It helps keep the search engines well fed. I say we drop banana’s on the ex-hacker friend of yours from very high in the PR rankings. Shame on him for messing with our monkey!

And my wife’s blog also. It could use a bit more traffic from those friendly search engines. If fact we both could use more friends that visit our blogs and website. The more the merrier I say.
